The most comfortable underware I have ever owned ! Warm in winter and cool in summer and look great. I have four pair of these and couldn’t think of any other underware that would be better.
Craig Sangster – June 26, 2023
awesome merino underwear and worth the money and love the length of them and so nice to wearing them and they are best
Jacob (verified owner) – September 13, 2022
Simply the best. I have been enjoying these boxers for over a decade–as far as I’m concerned, they’re the best underwear on the market today. They are incredibly comfortable, flexible, and temperature regulating. They feel great to wear in all conditions, even after a days-long hike, or a swim in the ocean (I’ve used them for both, when the need arose!). I keep buying more and aspire to one day have a wardrobe full of them so I can use these every day of the week. Don’t hesitate, get a pair now!
julie (verified owner) – May 23, 2021
I discovered these merino boxes many years ago when I was hiking. I loved them so much, I bought a few, and I wear them almost every day. They last for years. The stretchy sculpted fit gives a good line under skirts and trousers. And for strenuous hiking, when you get hot and sweaty, they wick moisture and they don’t get smelly!
Joseph – December 23, 2018
WORTH THE MONEY! If you are a serious back country user where showers might be weeks apart these are worth their weight in gold. One of those bits of gear you always pack, summer or winter.
John – April 8, 2017
Fantastic merino underwear. Have tried others before, but found they loose their shape and the strength left a little to be desired. But not these. Probably my most favourite bit of kit on my expedition across Greenland. Wore them 30 days straight, and could’ve quite happily continued. Superfine merino never chaffed or itched, and kept the jewels warm in -25C
Jordyn – September 9, 2014
Everything you’d want and expect from a set or merino underwear. Firstly they are very comfortable, even in warmer climates which surprised me. They are extremely hard wearing and keep their shape, I have been travelling for 7 or so months now and the two pairs I have with me almost look like new even thought I’ve worn them a shameful amount. Solid piece of kit.

Earth Sea Sky was formed in December 1990 when David teamed up with clothing designer, Sydney Mulligan. Between them they had more than 25 years experience in New Zealand’s outdoor clothing industry. This experience in design, production and sales was used to fill a growing need in the market for outdoor clothing that combined comfort, style and performance. David and Sydney introduced designs and colours that linked function and performance with great fit, attention to detail and fashion. Their first range of 20 garments included tramping jackets, oilskins, waterproof ski wear, 60/40 anorak windshells and Polartec thermal fleeces.
Since then, most of New Zealand’s outdoor clothing brands have taken their production offshore. Earth Sea Sky is committed to remaining New Zealand made. The Ellis family believes this is vital in maintaining the brand’s consistent quality and uniqueness.

Best Travel Underwear for Women
Table of contents.
Quick-drying fabric, breathable, and sweat wicking tend to be the features that define the best traveling underwear. Plus, since they will usually get more wear and washings than a normal pair, your travel underwear needs to have the best quality seams and fabric!
But that doesn’t narrow down the choices for you, as almost all of the brands that make the best travel underwear for women have these same features. Those features don’t guarantee that a pair of travel underwear will live up to your expectations, or, more importantly, that they’re comfortable.
When it comes to picking the best underwear for women travelers, they need to be comfortable and meet all of your style, packing, and washing needs. Here are the travel panties that we recommend.
Best Travel Underwear According to Our Readers
The fit and comfort of your underwear really comes down to personal preference, but at least the brands here will give you a starting point to begin your search for travel underwear to add to your travel capsule wardrobe . They have tested and proven their quality, and all of these lines have the features necessary to accompany you to your next destination!
ExOfficio Women’s Give-N-Go Bikini Brief
Best Travel Underwear: ExOfficio Underwear
When it comes to the best women’s underwear for traveling, ExOfficio is the most widely recommended brand. Its Give N Go style happens to be popular with travelers and comes in a variety of cute colors and cuts:
- Bikini Brief (shown above)
- String Bikini Brief
- Full Cut Brief
- Sport Mesh Hipster
- Sport Mesh Thong
- Nylon Thong
With so many options, the best travel panties for you will be ones that aren’t only comfortable but make you feel confident!
The only downside to the Give N Go is the price. It seems pretty steep to pay $20 for a single pair of underwear. But if you’re traveling for an extended period of time, they could be well worth the price tag. ExOfficio does really build some of the best underwear for women !
If you love comfort, these are the best wireless bras for travel!
Balanced Tech 6 Pack Seamless Hipster Brief Bikini Panties
Budget Travel Underwear: Balanced Tech Body Underwear

One TFG reader recommends Balanced Tech’s hipster panties . This pair is one of the best travel underwear for women looking for breathable, comfortable, and fast-drying panties.
This quick dry underwear is perfect for all forms of weather you might encounter on your trip. Wear them for hikes or long walks around a city or town!

You don’t need to break the bank to find the best women’s underwear for travel. Jockey proves that their quick dry underwear is perfect for the female traveler.
Several TFG readers compare the Jockey travel underwear to the more pricier Patagonia brand. They offer a great, seam-free style for a smooth fit.
Not only are these travel panties breathable, but readers also report that they are quick to dry and offer great stretch. They are thin enough to wear under the lightest fabrics without showing any lines!
TFG readers have you covered with their favorite anti-chafe shorts — including Jockey’s — take a look!
ibex Natural Brief
Best Lightweight Underwear for Travel: ibex Underwear
Ibex is highly popular with travelers for two main reasons: breathability and comfort! Why? It’s all due to merino wool, as it moves with you and is sweat-wicking, so you’ll be dry and comfortable during a long day of exploring. But, it also helps to regulate your body temperature so your core stays warm or can cool off.
For instance, you’ll get no chafing with the Balance bikini briefs ! These panties are thermoregulating so whether on a cold or hot trip, you’ll be a-ok! They also need less frequent washing required and don’t fall apart!
But if you want to feel light, breezy, and odor-free, then check out the natural briefs . They have a new improved fit and no-ride elastic around the legs for comfort and durability! And it’s been reported that they don’t cause any irritation or annoying bunching, but offer good aeration and overall reduction of odor.
If you want to see the full range of underwear that ibex carries, check out this page !

Under Armour Pure Stretch Thong
Quick Dry Underwear Womens Brands: Under Armour Underwear
Just like Lululemon, Under Armour makes a wide range of underwear styles that can easily be used as travel underwear. Best yet, they offer quick dry underwear thongs for women who don’t wear full bikini cuts.
The super-soft stretch fabric they use delivers excellent all-day comfort for any activity. The laser cut edges offer a hem-free construction for a smoother, more flattering silhouette — perfect for form-fitting clothing!

New Balance Ultra Comfort Performance Seamless Bikini
Best Womens Underwear for Activity: New Balance Underwear
New Balance makes some of the best women’s underwear for active female travelers. These travel panties stay put! The Performance Seamless Bikini above is one of our readers’ top picks as the best travel underwear. They use it for runs, and workouts, and often carry a pair in their backpacks during my trips!
They say they’re some of the best traveling underwear because the wide waistband sits flat against your body and doesn’t move, and the leg openings are unrestrictive and comfortable. For a better deal, look for them on discount sites where you can find last season’s colors at a lower price point.
Smartwool Merino Bikini
Best Hiking Underwear Womens Brand: Smartwool Underwear
Smartwool’s Merino Bikini is similar in material to the Icebreaker travel underwear. Also made from natural merino wool, these wool-blend travel panties help shape retention and give you the best quality of each material.
While Smartwool’s marketing is geared toward female athletes, its features make it a great choice for travelers, too! This seamless pair of travel underwear works well both on your adventures and under form-fitting bottoms where you’re looking to avoid visible panty lines.
Icebreaker Merino Wool Bikini
Best Travel Underwear Womens Wool: Icebreaker Underwear
If you prefer natural materials as opposed to synthetic fabrics, then Icebreaker’s wool travel panties might be the best pair of travel underwear for you. Most travel clothing is made from synthetic fabrics, but Icebreaker makes some of the best underwear for women with natural materials.
Icebreaker is known for its merino wool clothing line, which is a great material for travel! The merino wool line creates travel underwear that’s perfect for women headed out on longer treks.
Merino wool makes up some of the best travel clothing because of its anti-odor properties. But it’s really important to note that while they might be some of the best travel underwear womens brands offer, these particular travel undies are not dryer friendly — nor are they quick dry underwear.
While these merino wool underwear are some of the best travel panties on the market, they are more expensive than some of your other choices. They are the best underwear choice for women headed on multi-day treks or camping, where even hand washing may not be an option.

Hanky Panky Signature Lace Original Thong Panty
Cute and Comfy Travel Panties: Hanky Panky Underwear
If you are planning for a casual city trip or a long flight, you can probably skip the technical fabrics. No hike, no problem. But not needing technical fabrics doesn’t mean you’ll take any ol’ pair of panties.
For casual but comfortable, our readers highly recommend Hanky Panky . While they’re not cheap, they are some of the best travel underwear for women because they’re not just cute, they’re also comfortable and dry quickly, too.
Their signature lace original rise one-size thong fits higher on the hips for greater comfort while looking pretty, too. Despite the lace, they’re actually pretty durable and last forever!
Follow these tips for packing for hot weather !
Lululemon UnderEase Mid-Rise Bikini
Best Underwear for Women Athletes: Lululemon Underwear
Our list includes a few athletic brands that offer great choices as the best travel underwear for women.
Both Lululemon and Under Armour have lightweight underwear styles that feature absolutely no seams. This makes them light and smooth, perfect for pairing with any body-conscious style clothing you might be sporting on your travels.
The downside to doubling this athletic underwear as travel undies is that the sizing can sometimes be hit or miss.
Branwyn Medium-Rise Essential Hipster
Merino Wool Travel Underwear: Branwyn Underwear
Branwyn’s merino wool performance underwear is designed to keep you cool, comfy, and fresh, no matter what adventure you embark on! Made with a sustainable merino wool fabric, the Essential Hipster is a seamless, full-coverage option with a comfortable waistband that stays put.
You can get these same incredible features in the Essential Bikini and the Essential Thong , too. Readers have also shared that Branwyn underwear feels amazing, is easy to wash, and dries quickly!
TFG Recommends : If you are looking for something a little sexy when it comes to travel panties, I happen to love Betsey Johnson microfiber g-strings for underwear when traveling. They pack tiny, dry super fast, and are also comfortable. I own one in every color!
Compass Rose Carryon Size Packing Cubes: Slim Size Cubes | Medium Size Cubes
How to Pack Underwear
Packing cubes are the easiest way to pack light. I designed my own brand, Compass Rose slim packing cubes , to help women like me downsize their luggage and travel carry-on only.
The Compass Rose Packing Cubes are offered in two sizes: slim and medium. The slim size cubes measure 13” x 5” x 2.8”, and the medium size cubes measure 2.8” x 13” x 8.5”. Both fit an international carry-on suitcase. Users say the medium size is great for bulkier items!
Many travelers designate one packing cube just for bras and underwear. One reader says, “I have a packing cube specifically for bras, and stuff my undies and socks in there so that they can keep their shape.”
Underwear are also small and can be squeezed into nooks and crannies in your packing cubes. Follow this packing hack for all your clothing!
If you want to learn how to use packing cubes, watch the video below.

Would love it if someone could come out with quick-drying period panties. I switched over to Knix brand after years of pantiliners/pads and would never go back. The extra absorbency unfortunately means they can take a couple of nights to dry. If anyone comes across a brand that dries faster, please let us other travelling women know!
I love that we talk about everything down to our skivvies 🙂 I have to try the ExOfficio!
ExOfficio brief is not what it use to be. I’ve had to switch to another brand.
I recently discovered Simply Merino, a Canadian company, for full coverage MERINO WOOL underwear! It’s the best!
I tried Ex Officio full briefs for travel years ago – great fit, quick dry, needed only 3 pair for weeks of travel. When I got home I realized there was no reason to pack them away in my travel drawer and started wearing them on the regular.
Thanks for this article. Though I’d like to try the Merino wool, the price seems steep. I think I will try the Jockeys as a middle of the road option. Staying in place, no visible panty lines, and quick dry are the most important features for me.
Based on these recommendations, I took the Fruit of the Loom Mesh underwear on my 1 month travel adventure this summer. I was super impressed by how fast they dried and how comfortable they were. I found a multipack at Target that had some bonus pairs in it. They were perfect!
I spent 3 weeks in Italy in June and my choice of underwear was On Gossamer. They were perfect in the hot, humid weather and 3 were adequate as they dry so quickly. A wonderful find!
Ex Officio have been my go-to for years. For travel and daily wear. The article is helpful as it provides other options to consider.
Love the Ex Officio panties! They are so comfortable!
Interesting!
I packed enough underwear for my one week trip and then was stuck in Scotland for an extra week with COVID. I had Woolite packets and hooks ready to wash out my quick drying balanced tech.
thanks for this! Always looking for new and comfy undies!
I love Soma vanishing edge panties. They are completely invisible under any clothing, never ride up due to the silicone grippers on the edges and come in lightweight microfiber the rolls to nothing!
Hi Kathy, thank you so much for sharing your great review of the Soma vanishing edge panties with us!! 🙂
I have to agree with others – Soma Vanishing Edge Microfiber Bikini are a great choice too! It has silicone along the leg opening (you can’t feel it) and that keeps the underwear in place! I run, do yoga, and wear them under dress pants! Plus they dry overnight! I highly recommend them!
I love the exOficino give and go hipster undies. They are the best all the time!
Many travelers love that brand!
I LOVE THE ICE BREAKER PANTIES THEY LOOK SO COMFY AND LULULEMON IS SO SPORTY!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks for the tip Pat!
Victorias Secret The Lacie, fabulous colours, smooth fithe, quick drying
good suggestions!
I took Balanced Tech panties on a month long trip to do a transpacific cruise & they washed and dried very well & are comfy.
Good list, may be I’ll try from these on my next trip. I usually like satin & cotton fabric briefs during my travel.
Glad you found it useful 🙂
Thanks for the merino suggestions. I have traveled using synthetic materials with ExOfficio, Patagonia, and Under Armor and while they wash easy and dry fast I like the feel of natural materials best (cotton is my go to for everyday at home). I’m headed to Indonesia in November and will try at least one pair of merinos.
The Under Armour Women’s Pure Stretch Sheer are my favourite. They pack tiny, they breathe and they dry in minutes. I tried the non sheer ones, and while they’re good for the gym, they’re not as good for travel.
Glad you’ve found something you love Sarah! They are totally lightweight which is great for travel.
Love the Ex Officio ones. They came out with a few cute bright colored ones which I haven’t seen around recently, but I hope they bring them back. I should have ordered more.
They’re a popular choice!
I love some of exofficio items, but most of the panties I’ve tried give me panty lines. I’ve traveled well with UA. looking forward to trying some of these suggestions.
Hi Kris, thank you for your comment. Hope you get on alright with the suggestions! 🙂
My personal fave is Jockey for Her – the Élance line has fabric-covered elastic at the waist and leg openings, so you don’t get that elastic heat rash thing. I prefer the French cut, but the bikinis are pretty good too. Breathable 100% cotton, dries overnight. Most of the undies I’m travelling with are several years old, and are holding up just fine after being washed out in the sink every week.
Will have to check it out. Love browsing the racks at discount stores like Nordstrom Rack, TJ Maxx, and Marshalls for good finds too!

Whether you’re in hot or cold weather, breathability is crucial. Cotton underwear traps sweat, which will make you feel icky in hot weather and colder in cooler weather. The best travel underwear will help you stay cool and dry at all times by wicking away sweat and allowing for good air circulation. 2. Comfort.
