- Goofs There are some rank insignia mistakes. Number One is introduced as "Lieutenant Commander Una Chin-Riley" yet she is wearing the rank insignia of a full commander: two full stripes. A Lieutenant Commander's rank insignia is a full stripe under a thin stripe (in TOS it is a full stripe and a staggered stripe). It is not uncommon for a ship's first officer to be a Lt. Commander if they have not been in the position long. Spock at this point is a Lieutenant but he is wearing Lieutenant Commander's stripes; a Lieutenant just has one stripe. La'an is the ship's chief of security and the ship's second officer. She is also wearing Lt. Commander stripes but is addressed as a Lieutenant, but it would make more sense for her to be a Lieutenant Commander. Either way both of their rank insignia are not matching the rank they are addressed by. Ortegas is addressed as a Lieutenant but is wearing Lieutenant Commander's strips. A Lieutenant Commander may be addressed as a Commander or Lieutenant Commander but never as just a Lieutenant, so either her rank insignia or the manner she is addressed by the rest of the crew is in error.

Anticipation is high for Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 3 following season 2's nail-biting cliffhanger. Strange New Worlds season 2's finale, "Hegemony," saw Captain Pike (Anson Mount) and the crew of the USS Enterprise defy Starfleet orders to rescue Captain Marie Batel (Melanie Scrofano) and the colonists of the planet Parnassus Beta. By the end of Strange New Worlds ' thrilling season 2 finale, Lt. Noonien-Singh (Christina Chong), Lt. Sam Kirk (Dan Jeannotte), Dr. M'Benga (Babs Olusanmokun), and Lt. Ortegas (Melissa Navia) are captured by the Gorn and Batel has become a host to the terrifying alien species' parasitic eggs.
When the cast of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds returns in season 3, it will be to a very different Paramount+ landscape. Star Trek: Discover y ended with season 5, passing the torch to Strange New Worlds as the flagship Star Trek series. With the franchise in a state of flux, Strange New Worlds is tasked with picking up the slack left over by the ending of several long-running series. Though reinforcements are coming soon (namely the forthcoming Starfleet Academy ), Strange New Worlds season 3 will set the tone for the next phase of the beloved sci-fi universe.

A New Clip Premieres At 2024's New York City Comic Con
With production wrapped a few months ago, the latest news comes in the form of another clip from Strange New Worlds season 3 . The latest footage premiered at 2024's New York City Comic Con as part of Star Trek 's expansive presentation at the yearly event. Catching up with Pike and the Enterprise crew as they try to rescue the crew members taken by the Gorn in season 2, the clip shows the ship in the middle of fierce fighting . Weighing their options, they devise a plan that involves hiding a tracking beacon in a dead torpedo in order for their maneuvers to go unnoticed.
Along with the clip, it was also revealed that Our Flag Means Death star Rhys Darby has been tapped to play a guest role in the upcoming season , though details remain scant. Additionally, new images from the season were also debuted at the convention, and they show just a taste of the intense action that's expected from season 3. One image is a closeup of Captain Pike making quick decisions on the bridge, while another show Pike giving orders from his chair. Meanwhile, Spoke is seen sitting stiffly at his science console, while Number One stares intently from the control panel.

This projects Strange New Worlds season 4 to premiere on Paramount+ in 2026, which would help mark Star Trek 's 60th anniversary. More Vulcan Comedy Is Coming Soon
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds released its first clip from season 3 at San Diego Comic-Con 2024. The humorous five-minute video showcases the entire cast of Strange New Worlds as Captain Pike, Lt. La'an Noonien-Singh, Ensign Nyota Uhura, and Nurse Christine Chapel are turned into Vulcans, to the chagrin of Lt. Spock. The footage hails from a Strange New Worlds season 3 episode directed by Jordan Canning , and it's a follow-up to her Vulcan comedy of manners, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 2, episode 5, "Charades." Check out the clip below:

The Wait For Strange New Worlds Season 3 Will Last Until 2025
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 3 will premiere on Paramount+ in 2025 . Post-production and visual effects for Strange New Worlds season 3's 10 episodes are underway. Furthermore, Paramount+ will need Strange New Worlds season 3 as the centerpiece of Star Trek in its 2025 schedule. However, this doesn't stop eager audience members from hoping Strange New Worlds season 3 could split its release and drop the first episodes by the end of 2024, mainly so that they can see the resolution of Strange New Worlds season 2's cliffhanger , but this is unlikely.
The Entire Enterprise Crew Is Returning
Though the full scope of the cast of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 3 remains unknown, it's confirmed that the entire Enterprise crew will be back again . Exclusive clips and behind-the-scenes footage have already confirmed major returns, like that of Anson Mount as Captain Christopher Pike, and he'll be joined by Rebecca Romijn as his first officer, Una Chin-Riley. Though the lives of crew members like Melissa Navia's Lt. Erica Ortegas still hangs in the balance, they'll be back. Cillian O'Sullivan has been cast as Dr. Roger Korby for season 3, Nurse Chapel's fiance.
Some major changes are happening aboard the Enterprise in season 3 as well, and Martin Quinn's Lt. Mongomery Scott is set to join the crew on a regular basis. This begins the ships slow transition over to the Captain Kirk era, but there are stil 6 in-universe years until that is supposed to happen.
Expect More "Big Swings" From Strange New Worlds Season 3
As well as resolving the fate of Captain Batel and the captured Starship Enterprise crew, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds has already set up multiple storylines for season 3 . One of the biggest storylines will be the arrival of Nurse Christine Chapel's (Jess Bush) fiance Roger Korby which will create new a love triangle involving Lt. Spock (Ethan Peck). Other big storylines set up in Strange New Worlds season 2 include Dr. M'Benga and his dark secrets from the Klingon War, the impending fatherhood of Lieutenant James T. Kirk (Paul Wesley), and Kirk's promotion to Commander aboard the USS Farragut.
The USS Enterprise will have a new Science Lab in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 3.
Viewers can also expect some big genre swings to follow in the footsteps of Star Trek 's first-ever musical episode and the animated crossover with Star Trek: Lower Decks . Already announced is Strange New Worlds season 3's "Hollywood murder mystery" episode directed by Jonathan Frakes. Season 3 will also be a chance to see the young Montgomery Scott learn and grow into the USS Enterprise 's legendary Chief Engineer. There are still at least six years before Captain James T. Kirk takes command of the Enterprise giving Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 3 plenty of ground to cover when it returns.
A spin-off of Star Trek: Discovery, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is a television series that takes place before the events of the original series and follows Captain Christopher Pike as he mans the helm of the U.S.S. Enterprise. The show focuses on this previous crew of the Enterprise as they explore the galaxy with returning characters from Discovery.

Captain Pike and his enterprising crew get very crafty during a relentless attack by the Gorn, as seen in a Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 3 teaser that debuted Saturday at New York Comic Con.
It was also announced during the afternoon New York Comic Con panel that Rhys Darby ( Our Flag Means Death , Flight of the Conchords ) will guest-star during the upcoming season, though no character details were shared.
A previous sneak peek revealed that at some point in Season 3, Captain Pike (played by Anson Mount), Uhura (Celia Rose Gooding), Chapel (Jess Bush), La’an (Christina Chong) and Pelia (Carol Kane) are injected with a serum that transforms them into Vulcans — perhaps for longer than they planned!
Based on the years that Christopher Pike manned the helm of the U.S.S. Enterprise , Strange New Worlds follows the ship’s captain plus Science Officer Spock (Ethan Peck), Number One (Rebecca Romijn) and the rest of the Enterprise crew in the years before Captain Kirk boarded the starship, as they explore new worlds around the galaxy.
The cast also includes Melissa Navia, Babs Olusanmokun and Martin Quinn, along with special guest stars Paul Wesley.
Alex Kurtzman, Akiva Goldsman, Jenny Lumet, Henry Alonso Myers, Aaron Baiers, Dana Horgan, Davy Perez, Frank Siracusa, John Weber, Rod Roddenberry and Trevor Roth alls serve as executive producers.

I thought Kirk and Spock weren’t aware of the Gorn before they encountered them in the first-season episode “Arena.”
From “Arena”: “Weaponless, I face the creature the Metrons called a Gorn. Large, reptilian.”
And that is after starship combat. So the crew is unfamiliar with the tactics and ship. And it looks like Kirk himself was unfamiliar with the species name and what they are. It’s all explainable if Kirk is elsewhere, doing something else during all this. And presumably after this, there being no full blown war between the Hegemony and the Federation.
Rhys Darby .. aka Q?
Can’t be Q. Then you’d have to explain his absence during Star Trek TOS.
I love Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. What I don’t understand is that we had about 20 episodes a year for DS9 and Voyager. But we get only 10 episodes of Strange New Worlds?
It’s a much more expensive show to make, and there’s more of a demand for “all killer, no filler” storytelling styles now. Do you remember how many absolutely awful episodes seasons/we got of those shows? How rarely they set foot on a fresh set or location? SNW may have its issues as well (it’s gotten SO goofy and relies on gimmicks) but no-one would tolerate the ’90s bloat anymore. People complain about 13 ep seasons “dragging in the middle” nowadays. Every episode now needs to be an event. (Tho of course all the filler back in the day did allow minor characters to get the spotlight, whereas on SNW characters who should arguably much more centered get almost nothing. It’s a tradeoff.)
“People complain about 13 ep seasons “dragging in the middle” nowadays.” Only when shows try to contain a pointless rubber-arc which SNW does not. Fresh locations and fresh plots every week. I would like to have more of those (old style) shows! But I understand the cost issues.
Can you imagine if they tried to do the same kind of seasons now? Filler episodes, shoddy effects, campy tone… people would be complaining right away. Expectations are higher than they were in the 90s or early 2000s.
I could really show my age and say I remember when a season was 36 episodes. Not old enough to say 39, as it was in the beginning.
Cannot wait for Rhys Darby. Honestly wasn’t super excited for this season before this announcement — I think I just need to accept this is a zany gimmick fun show, no hint of seriousness anymore. I wonder if they’ll ever remember the “Spock’s brother” plot again, LOL
The teaser looks pretty serious to me.
Fantastic series… can’t wait!
