• The Tour will culminate in November with a virtual Global Grand Finale, where the next Hot Wheels die-cast will be selected and inducted into the Hot Wheels Garage of Legends™

EL SEGUNDO, Calif., April 18, 2024 — The Hot Wheels Legends Tour presented by Mobil 1 is a global phenomenon and back for its seventh year in search of the next Garage of Legends inductee. Beginning May 11, car builders from around the world will compete for a chance to have their one-of-a-kind car immortalized as a 1:64-scale die-cast and join a legendary group of Garage of Legends life-size Hot Wheels vehicles. Celebrating car builders and enthusiasts around the world in their drive to be legendary, this year’s Tour kicks off in Miami with a live event, in partnership with Walmart, on May 11 and will travel across 13 countries.

For 2024, Hot Wheels is leaving no stone unturned in its search for the next Hot Wheels die-cast, with new event stops in Columbia and the United Arab Emirates. The United States will host 11 regional events at Walmart locations across the country, culminating with the Global Semi-Final and the Global Grand Finale in November.

“The dedication and enthusiasm we see at Hot Wheels Legends Tour events around the world keep us motivated to build on the tour every year to find more ways to celebrate custom car builders and their drive to become legendary,” said Ted Wu, Senior Vice President and Global Head of Design for Vehicles at Mattel. “This year, the tour will visit Columbia and the UAE for the first time, and we can’t wait to see these unique car communities represented at this year’s Global Semi-Final in November.”

Hot Wheels designers and celebrity judges will examine each vehicle based on three key categories: authenticity, creativity, and garage spirit. The brand’s Garage of Legends vehicles push the boundaries of automotive design and purpose-built performance. When searching for the next authentically iconic Hot Wheels vehicle, the judges are looking for extreme, on-trend, relevant vehicles. Judges will also consider the builder’s overall creativity and how the project stands out from the crowd. Additionally, extra points will be awarded when it is evident that the owner put in early mornings, late nights, grit, and determination into the project.

New for this year, Hot Wheels will celebrate its ongoing partnership with Walmart by adding a U.S. virtual contest where car enthusiasts nationwide can submit their passion projects and participate in the Hot Wheels Legends Tour. Hot Wheels and Walmart Design Teams will select one vehicle to move on to the Global Semi-Final in November. Submission details will be announced in the coming weeks.

The U.S.-based regional events will return to Walmart stores and feature interactive analysis and coverage from the onsite hosts. Each stop will include activities for fans of all ages, including the Hot Wheels Garage of Legends life-size cars, play spaces where kids can interact with the latest Hot Wheels toys, and Hot Wheels die-cast displays featuring coveted premium and collector cars. Additionally, Hot Wheels enthusiasts can find special edition Hot Wheels Legends products exclusively at select Walmart stores or on Walmart.com .

Since its launch in 2018 to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of Hot Wheels, the Hot Wheels Legends Tour has grown from a series of local Walmart events across the United States to the world’s largest traveling car show, bringing in builders and automotive fans through both virtual and live events.

Previous champions include the inaugural 2018-winning 2 JetZ™, 2019-winning THE NASH™, 2020-winning 1970 Pontiac® Firebird™, 2021-winning 1969 Volvo P1800 Gasser, 2022-winning “Texas Toot” 1992 Autozam Scrum micro truck, and last year’s 2023 winner, a one-of-a-kind 1990 Mazda MX-5 roadster nicknamed “Chimera.”

Get ready to rev your engines because the Hot Wheels Legends Tour is back for 2024 and is bigger and better than ever! If you’ve ever dreamed of seeing your custom car turned into a Hot Wheels diecast model, this is your chance to make it happen.

The Hot Wheels Legends Tour is like the ultimate car show on steroids. It’s a worldwide search for the most jaw-dropping custom cars. From sleek muscle cars to futuristic speedsters, it could become immortalized as a 1:64-scale Hot Wheels model.

This year, the tour will hit 16 countries worldwide. But for our friends in the United States, mark your calendars because it will make eleven stops in cities known for their love of custom cars.

Kool Kombi - 2024 Hot Wheels Legends Tour

The 2023 Legends Tour isn't over yet, but we already get to see the Hot Wheels Legends Tour car for 2024.

The Kool Kombi has Spectraflame paint, a Hot Wheels Surf Shop logo, woodgrain trim, and Real Rider wheels. Always a fan-favorite, it's going to be a must-have car for a lot of collectors.

The Volkswagen Kombi, also known as the Volkswagen Type 2, was introduced in 1950 and quickly became popular worldwide.

The Kombi typically features a rear-engine, rear-wheel-drive layout with a unique and iconic design that includes a flat front end and a spacious, boxy interior.

Designed to be versatile and adaptable, the Kombi has various body types allowing it to be used as a cargo van, a minibus, a camper van, and even a pickup truck.

The Hot Wheels casting is based on a shortened cargo version of the Kombi that has wheelie bars and surfboards sticking out of the open tailgate.

Hot Wheels Legends Tour Hits Road for Toy Inspiration

“Our first Hot Wheels Legends Tour set the bar high , bringing together tens of thousands of passionate, brand fans and car enthusiasts of all ages in a first-of-its-kind tour experience to celebrate our 50th anniversary,” said Chris Down, global head of Hot Wheels. “It was invigorating to see fans and families showcase and celebrate car culture in a way only the Hot Wheels brand can and now we’re ready to take year two to the next level by expanding the tour with new partners and stops.”

The Hot Wheels Legend Tour launched last year to celebrate the toy brand’s 50 th anniversary, attracting more than 3,600 cars and 65,000 fans. The tour this year will include even more show dates. The winning vehicle will be inducted into the Hot Wheels Garage of Legends, a collection of one-of-a-kind cars that embody the brand’s “challenger spirit and legendary design,” according to the company,

At each tour stop, fans will show off their unique custom builds to judges consisting of Hot Wheels designers, automotive experts and influencers. The judges will select one finalist per tour stop, based on a car’s authenticity, creativity and garage spirit. Finalists from each of the 18 stops will win a trip to the SEMA Show in Las Vegas, where their custom creations will be judged side-by-side to determine which one will be made into a die-cast car sold around the world.

Hot Wheels Legends Tour also will features racing simulations, pit stop challenges, the Hot Wheels Kid Zone, photo opportunities, and a chance to check out the rest of the Hot Wheels life-size fleet.

The Hot Wheels Legends Tour will stop at select Walmart stores in the following U.S. cities:

Hot Wheels 1:64 scale die-cast cars were designed in 1968 to look cool and perform better than anything else on the market. Five decades later, Hot Wheels is the No. 1 selling toy in the world, with more than 16.5 cars sold every second, according to the company.

Semi Finals and Global Final

The UK finalist will then face other contenders in the semi final with the winners going through to the global final in November.
